On this windy and rainy Sunday night, I am listening to a haunting tune that Jerry covered in his run at the Warfield in early December 1991 with David Grisman. I am not sure if this performance has previously been discussed in the forum, but Jerry's vocals are achingly sublime and Grisman's mandolin is lilting and mystic.....You can also find the tune on Shady Grove and the JGB Acoustic Album but I really like this version and thought I would share it. I have uploaded it at the link below (apologies for having to cut and paste the url). Enjoy.....WYS

Most of Garcia's work with Grisman has been generally overlooked in the forum, or at least little discussed. This particular tune is perhaps the finest example of true Americana they ever adopted for play. It's got that back in the hollow relative morality that can only come from an authentic hillbilly storyteller. Like other "traditionals" I'm sure this kind of good and evil juxtaposition appealed to Garcia.
